[Unfortunately Loki fails to light the second candle in two minutes. After at least six minutes he manages to summon a flame again to light the second.]

[He's not quite pleased with it either. He figured that putting focus on the need to light something would be the key to shorten the summoning time. Loki takes a step back, frowning and looks at Billy.]

A good start but a rather disappointing conclusion.

[Loki figures that this is a little bit more important than playing with the other's phone so he straightens his shoulders and takes a deep breath.]

Let me try this again. Please take note of the time, Billy of New York.

You got it.

[Billy does just that, resetting the timer to zero before furrowing his brows and thinking for moment. He'd had lots of time to consider Loki's technique while he was waiting, but... hmm.]

I wonder if you're actually focusing too hard. If you tense up too much, the energy won't flow through your body properly, and if you can't get your energy moving then the magic won't move, either.

I see. My magical abilities are connected to the energy that is flowing through my body.

[He looks at Billy with narrowed eyes, his finger tapping his chin a couple of times. It makes sense.]

It is about finding a balance between relaxation and focus, yes?

[Followed by a soft and muttering...]

[His gaze turns towards the candles again. As expected, to develop magical abilities throughout himself proves to be difficult. Brewing potions or using a magical artifact always had been so much easier.

He blows the candles out and decides to sit down crosslegged in front of them. Focus and relaxation. Loki just figures that he's cold and that it is dark and therefore he needs the flames to light these candles.

So instead of focusing really hard he humms a soft melody. Maybe that'll help.]

[Billy looks intrigued by this new tactic, but refrains from commenting; he'll be interested if it works, because if it's effective he might just have to try it himself, being a big fan of music.

And as silly as musical magic might seem to some people, he's really liking the idea. He's quietly rooting for you, Loki!]

[The last time Loki sang was when was facing some demon that has been part of his older self's great and rather gross riddle. The soft humming makes place for some words. And those words together form the lyrics of this song.

Loki pauses his singing to smile at the small flames emerging from his hands. He lights the first candle quickly and clenches his hands to fists to make the flames disappear again.

Now it is a matter of 'rinse and repeat'...]

[Indeed, Billy, indeed and Loki flashes him a sharp grin because the art of Rick Rolling someone is something he greatly appreciates.

And he keeps RickRolling him, because hey, the lyrics are rather fitting and it helps to focus and relax at the same time. Because this time there are only 2 minutes between summoning the first flame and the second one.

When Loki is done he sits back a little, watching the two candles briefly before turning to Billy.]

This is better, yes?

[Amazing what a bit of trolling can do. Billy looks more impressed when he sees the results, turning his phone to show the screen to Loki, displaying his best time.]

Much better. I guess the secret to your magic is adding a little music to it, huh?

[Everyone's got their own method, so it makes sense. And this is one method he can help with plenty.]

[Loki looks at the phone and grins.]

That is most satisfactory! We should seal it with the fist of bro.

[So extends his arm and presents his fist.]

Fist of bro, you got it.

[First he gives Loki the promised fistbump, then he offers the phone out to him.]

And your reward, as promised. But there's no internet on it- I guess they don't have it here.

[Loki takes the phone with a certain eagerness.]

Billy of New York. We need to make a picture where we do this 'squishing of the faces'. Like bff's do.

[But that's so uncool...

...on the other hand, photo with Loki. Of Asgard. How can he turn that down? Plus the bff thing is a surprise, but not an unwelcome comment. Maybe he's moving up in the world.]

Haha, okay. Did you find the camera?

[Loki is tapping the keys swiftly, pleased with how quickly he has figured this out.]

The camera is here. Yes, yes, right here.

[He shows Billy that he has found the camera. Finally he scoots over to sit next to him.]

Are duck-faces a mandatory thing?

[Billy can't help it- he lifts a brow at that.]

Mandatory? They really, really aren't. Most people just smile for photos...

[Where does this kid get such weird ideas.]

I see. So no duck faces. Duly noted.

[Loki looks up at the other.]

Let us do funny faces instead, yes? They convey the fun nature of an event quite well.

[He fidgets with the phone some more before he flips the thing around and extends his arm as far as he can.]

Let me know when you are ready, then I will press the button and make the picture.

[It takes him a moment to think of something - really, he hasn't made ridiculous faces for a photo since he was little and trying to make his baby brother stop crying, or something like that. Finally he squishes his cheeks in, eyes squinting.]

[Loki chooses for a delightful combination of looking cross-eyed and sticking his tongue out as far as he can. As a god of mischief he deems himself quite talented at things like this.

After a short nod he presses the small green button with the camera-symbol on it.]

[Well, that was adorably goofy. Once the picture's taken, he relaxes his face and leans in to look.

...Yep, that's a silly picture alright.]

Cool, we're immortalized on my iPhone.

[Loki looks at the picture as well and yes, he has to admit, it is most silly. It conveys the concept of mischief in the most excellent way possible.]

Aye. I cannot agree more.

Do you also have these applications they call apps? Phones of I do have these.

[And without any further ado he starts tapping away on Billy's phone.]

If I call any of these numbers. Will someone pick up?

It sucks, but no. There's no signal, see?

[He points to the sad little symbol at the top of the screen that shows its lack of connection.]

It's the same with the internet.

I noticed that. It is a pity.

[Loki looks at Billy and nudges him.]

We could put our mission points together and request an internet connection. Since you must have oodles of them and I have a grand total of zero, you will be the one who will benefit the most from it after all.

And because of our bond of great friendship I will benefit as well. And thus we are so-called 'friends with benefits'.

[In where Loki completely misinterprets the term.]

In a demonstration of particularly stellar timing, Billy had been taking a drink from his milkshake as Loki said that. Which means that his spluttering reply was even more adventurous than usual.]

Oh my god- Loki- oh my god, okay- don't- don't ever say that. To anyone. Ever. Please.

[Loki snorts at Billy's response. Espcially when he tries not to splatter his milkshake over his clothes.]

We are not friends with benefits? Could this phrase mean something else? Or refer to benefits of a different kind?

Hmn.

Friends who profit from eachother, yes?

[Sob. Okay, that's a little less brain-breaking, at least.]

Yeah, that's... uh. I can live with that.

You could not live with the word 'benefits'? I have heard of this phrase a lot and it sounds quite accurate for the situation that has just presented itself, you see?
